Our dental professionals will do everything they can to make sure you keep your teeth. But sometimes a tooth extraction is necessary, and if that’s the case, you can rest assured that we’ll provide the utmost care to make the process as stress-free as possible.
At Twin Lakes Dental Care, we’ve put our best efforts into making our office a comfortable and stress-free environment. Should you need to come in for a tooth extraction, make sure to take advantage of our modern amenities:
We also offer oral sedation or laughing gas to quell any anxiety you may have. The procedure typically involves X-rays to let the dentist see the best way to remove the tooth. After that, a local anesthetic will be applied to numb the tooth and surrounding gum. Your dentist will then remove the problematic tooth. You may feel pressure, but the process is usually painless.
Once the extraction is complete, it’s important to let the blood clot form. There may be some mild discomfort in the days following the procedure, but you can expect a full recovery in a couple of weeks. It’s recommended that you eat only soft and cool foods to not disturb the blood clot, and if necessary, apply ice packs on your cheeks for 20 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
The most common reasons for requiring a tooth extraction are irreparable damage, severe gum disease, poor positioning, crowding, or if it is necessary for an orthodontic operation. If you’re experiencing symptoms of any of these, a tooth extraction may be necessary. Contact our friendly staff at 615-257-0772 to schedule an appointment with one of our dental professionals.
